Under the new apprenticeship standards all apprentices must pass an end-point assessment to successfully complete their apprenticeship. The employer and training provider will determine the apprentice is ready for end-point assessment. This is part of the decision-making process, known as ‘gateway’.
The End Point Assessor must be completely independent from the apprentice, the employer and the Training Provider. End Point Assessment is conducted after the apprentice has completed their apprenticeship learning programme and could take the form of multiple choice tests, short answer questions, observation and Interviews which are pre determined by the Assessment Plan.
This is a new role which requires EPA's to be currently competent and knowledgable in the standard they wish to assess and have recent experience in the industry within the last 12 months.
Many existing qualified assessors who have been carrying out this role under the apprenticeship frameworks are now finding that their occupational competence has lapsed. This leaves the industry facing a 30,000 skills shortage. Whilst many of the assessment plans do not require EPAs to hold a recognised assessor qualification, it is advisable to be trained in assessment techniques as a minimum.
We are currently recruiting for freelance EPAs that we can supply to the Independent End Point Assessment Organisations.
If you have current occupational expertise and would like to train as an End Point Assessor then please get in touch today. We have workshops running to give you the knowledge, skills and tools to enable you to obtain EPA contract work.
